Robot ownership costs buyers often miss

Regional delivery

Freight, sales tax, VAT, customs, brokerage and insured return shipping can materially change a cross-border purchase.

Required cloud service

Some robots lose learning, conversation, app or even basic operation when a plan ends. Count the service only for months you expect to own the device.

Battery and moving parts

Wheels, joints, soft coverings and batteries wear differently. Use a quote or reserve; do not present a guessed repair as guaranteed.

Setup and accessibility

Professional installation, stronger Wi-Fi, a compatible phone, caregiver time or accessibility modifications may be necessary.

Cancellation and return

A leased robot may need to be returned; a final-sale robot may have no trial. Include packaging and return logistics in the ownership plan.

End of service

There is no automatic resale credit in this calculator because account transfer, cloud support and second-hand value are uncertain.

Create one row for each realistic choice and keep currency, ownership period and cost scope consistent. A three-year aibo estimate in US dollars cannot be compared directly with a five-year LOVOT estimate in yen.

Use confirmed credits conservatively. Enter a grant or reimbursement only after eligibility, amount and timing are documented. The calculator caps applied credits at gross ownership cost and reports any unused amount separately.

What is the total cost of owning a robot companion?

Total ownership cost includes the base device, regional purchase costs, accessories, required and optional services, connectivity, maintenance and a realistic repair reserve. Depending on the product, recurring service may be zero or a substantial share of the total.

Why does the calculator not estimate resale value?

Second-hand value depends on hardware condition, batteries, account transfer, region, cloud support and manufacturer policy. Treating an uncertain resale amount as guaranteed would understate ownership cost. Users can enter a confirmed buyback as a one-time credit.

Can I calculate in Mexican pesos or euros?

Yes. Choose a currency and enter every field in that same currency. The tool changes formatting but does not convert amounts. For a foreign preset, obtain a current delivered quote before replacing its native-currency values.

Are subscriptions counted during included service months?

No. Required subscription cost begins after the number of included months entered in the form. Optional software and connectivity are counted for the full ownership period because they are separate user assumptions.

Can a companion robot pay for itself?

That should not be assumed. A robot may provide enjoyment, engagement or operational value, but this calculator does not treat care, therapy, health, security or productivity claims as guaranteed financial returns.

Does the calculator save financial information?

No. Calculations and comparison rows exist only in the current page. They are not submitted, stored in an account or retained after the page reloads.
